2. Development of Industries

2.1 Development of Service Industry

2.1.1 Situation of Service Industry Development in 2005

In the “10thFive Year”, the development speed, the gross scale and the percentage of the service industry in Shanghai kept growing. In 2005, service industry in the whole city realized a increased value of 458.84 billion at a rate of increase 10.5% compared with the previous year,50.2% of this city’s GDP.

Finance industry expedited putting its operation under the guidance of market rule, and realized an increase of value of 69.0 billion at a growth rate of 11.6% compared with the previous year,15% of the whole service industry. The commerce in Shanghai keeps the leading role. In 2005, The retail value of Shanghai social consuming goods summed up
297.297 billion at a growth rate of 11.9% compared with the previous year,4.43% of the whole nation. The retail value of the foreign invested commerce summed up 41.86 billion at an increase rate of 11.9% compared with the previous year. Among those newly established large-scale supermarkets, foreign invested enterprises took more than 50%. Up to the end of 2005, the number of foreign invested large-scale supermarket reached 67 shops, 60% of the whole city and with their retail value shared 70% of the whole.

Shanghai realized, in 2005, an added value of 58.13 billion in the trade of communication & transportation, warehousing and postal service winning an increase at the rate 13.8% compared with the previous year,4.2% of the whole nation. The world known logistics enterprises including FedEx, TNT, Maersk, UPS, etc. settled in Shanghai.

By enlarging the construction of information network and service platform, the information service trade realized an added value of 42.3 billion winning an increase at the rate 26.4% compared with the previous year. Tourism industry achieved an added value of 58.4 billion with an increase rate 15.8% in CWCPYB. The service trades including Culture, entertainment, Education, health care, gymnastics and professional brokerage services, continue to grow rapidly.

2.1.2 Resort of Modern Service Industry

Shanghai started the first batch of 12 projects in 2005, and, in 2006, carries out the second batch projects and partly commences working. During “11thFive Year”, Shanghai is putting a layout into practice of setting up 20 modern services parks with core area in around 20 hectares and construction area in around 500,000 m2. The layout is going to integrate the function, construction and traffic to realize the whole supply chain of the industry so as to shape these parks in to the profile archive of the city presenting the image of Shanghai, and some industry highlands heightening the function of the city.

2.1.3 Prospect of Modern Service Industry Development

Coming to the year 2010, one will find the four important categories including information service, maritime transportation service, conference, exhibition and tourism, agency service, etc. are keeping the increase of their added values at a rate of 20% and more annually, so that realized the added value amounting to 230 billion.

Also the year 2010, we will have the trades of culture and entertainment, education and training, medical and health care, gymnastics and sports, etc. realizing the added value of over 100 billion.
